Fighting it out

Mars Matt WHite (7) and Shady Side'sConan Smith (10) in he Planets 2-0 win on Tuesday.

Taylor Stamm tallied 22 assists and Carly Shearer 11 kills as the Slippery Rock girls volleyball team defeated Hickory 3-0 Tuesday night.

Lauren Hilliard added eight kills and Megan Little 20 passes and seven digs for the Rockets, who won by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-11.

Slippery Rock's junior varsity team also won, 2-0.

Freeport 3, Knoch 1 — Freshman Zoe Pawlak had 13 kills, 13 points, four aces and six blocks to lead the Yellowjackets to a big section win over the Knights, 25-13, 18-25, 25-12, 29-27.

Celina Sanks had 11 kills and eight blocks, Schaely Renfrew nine kills and Kara Fitzpatrick 13 service points for the Knights (3-1, 2-1).

Brittney Bianco added 23 assists and Megan Sweeny 22 points, four kills and 21 assists for Freeport (2-0 in the section).

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — The Tornado received 12 kills, eight digs and three blocks from Heather Straynick and Mackenzie O'Donnell had five kills and four blocks, but the Tigers prevailed 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.

Erin Hilderbrand added 15 digs for Butler (2-3, 1-2).

Mars 3, Valley 0 — Abby Matusik had nine kills and six aces, Jaden Zimmer eight kills and Melanie Dinderman five aces as Mars cruised past the Vikings 25-9, 25-11, 25-17.

Cranberry 3, Karns City 2 — Kristen Smith contributed 22 assists and six kills for the Gremlins, who lost the match by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 15-9.

Kendyll Smith chipped in with nine kills and three blocks and Jordan Downs had six kills.

Clarion 3, A-C Valley 1 — Abby Wetzel's 25 digs highlighted the Falcons' effort. Meredith Snyder added eight kills, seven assists and five blocks and Alexis Linamen six kills in the 25-22, 20-25, 10-25, 15-25 loss.

Dylan Osborne carded a 76 to lead Grove City to a Region 2 victory Tuesday at Wanango, Oil City's course.Slippery Rock's Brett Rinker also shot a 76 to help the Rockets earn third place out of five teams. Noelle Garrison led the team with nine serves, 10 aces, 10 kills, and three blocks. Hildi Burleigh added 16 assists in the win.
