Celebrate 100 years of 4-H in Pa.

4-H is alive and well in Butler County and this year we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of 4-H in Pennsylvania.

In recognition of this milestone, an anniversary dinner is planned for Sept. 29 at the Butler Farm Show grounds. The dinner gets underway at 4 p.m. with special presentations planned for 5 p.m.

The dinner menu will feature barbecued pork, baked potatoes, corn on the cob and other treats.

Reservations are requested and are $10 per person.

Proceeds will go to the Butler County 4-H Foundation to support 4-H programs in Butler County into the future.

Tickets for the dinner may be purchased at the Penn State Extension Office on the grounds of Sunnyview Home at 101 Motor Pool Way, Butler, or by calling 724-287-4761.

As part of the recognition planned for the dinner celebration, the Butler County 4-H program is trying to locate the oldest former 4-H member and the oldest former 4-H leader. 4-H Centennial families with three or more generations of 4-H involvement will also be recognized.

If you would like to apply for any of these awards, contact the Penn State Extension Office at 724-287-4761. Applications are due by Friday.

Following the centennial dinner, the fifth annual 4-H Benefit Auction will be held in the Ag Building at the Farm Show grounds. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. to view the items offered for auction.

The auction features a variety of items donated by local businesses, 4-H clubs and 4-H families. Refreshments and baked goods are also available for purchase.

Proceeds from the auction support scholarships for 4-H members as well as member participation in district, regional and state 4-H educational programs.

Plan to join us on Sept. 29 to celebrate the 4-H program’s centennial birthday.
