Big plays help Karns City get past St. Marys

Tyler Kepple rumbled for an 82-yard touchdown and Wyatt Everetts also had an 80-yard touchdown scamper as Karns City held on for a 38-25 win over St. Marys in high school football action Friday night.

The big plays by the Gremlins were needed as St. Marys gave them all they could handle.

The Dutchmen never led, but were able to tie the score at 13-13 late in the second quarter on a 2-yard run by Alex Feldbauer, who finished with 146 yards on 31 carries.

Karns City, though, was able to open up a 31-13 lead late in the third quarter thanks to Everetts' long TD run and a 10-yard scoring run by Dakota Mohney.

Kepple's long TD run gave the Gremlins a 38-19 advantage midway through the fourth quarter.

Everetts finished with 135 yards on just seven carries while Kepple gained 94 yards on the ground on three attempts.

The Gremlins (1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference Large) rolled up 487 yards of offense in the win.

Slippery Rock 32, Brashear 26 — Ryan Currie scored four touchdowns, including a 1-yard plunge late in the fourth quarter for the decisive score.

Slippery Rock led 26-12 in the fourth quarter, but turnovers on three straight possessions helped the Bulldogs tie the score at 26-26 late.

Brashear had the ball, but coughed it up at its own 20, which led to Currie's final TD of the day.

Currie finished with 129 yards on 26 carries and also completed a 24-yard pass.

Jeff Croll added 51 yards on nine carries for Slippery Rock.

Cole McCandless booted a 27-yard field goal for the Rockets.

Grove City 40, Carrick 0 — Chad Williams scored on an 88-yard pass reception from Jared Graham and also scored TDs on runs of 10 and 13 yards as the Eagles rolled.

Williams also had 10 tackles on defense and recovered a fumble.

Graham also enjoyed a big day. The sophomore completed 2-of-3 passes for 119 yards.

Grove City's defense held Carrick to just 80 yards.

Foster Reznor also scored a pair of touchdowns for the Eagles, who led 27-0 at halftime. Reznor gained 94 yards on 11 attempts.

Boys soccerRyan Vilella and Anthony Crivelli each scored goals as Seneca Valley downed Norwin 2-0 Friday.Brandon White had two assists for the Raiders.
