GIBSONIA — Debra D. Panei has been promoted to executive director of St. Barnabas Charities.
Panei will be responsible for all of St. Barnabas Charities fundraising events and activities. She also will oversee the operation of the Kean Theatre.
Panei has been with St. Barnabas Health System for 13 years, most recently as director of development.
Panei lives in Center Township with her husband, Jim. They have two children.
St. Barnabas serves about 900 inpatients and residents, plus 35,000 outpatients and home care clients.
Westinghouse to dismantle plantsCRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric has signed an agreement with Studsvik AB to offer joint decommissioning services for nuclear power plants in Europe under the name of ndcon, Nuclear Decommissioning Consortium by Studsvik and Westinghouse.Services will include nuclear dismantling, decontamination and waste handling, initially in Germany and Sweden.The first commercial nuclear power plants in Europe were commissioned 50 years ago and many of these are nearing the end of their designed operating life.Additionally, political decisions have shortened the expected operation of nuclear power plants in Germany, where 17 nuclear reactors are planning to be phased out by 2022.For these reasons, a number of nuclear power plants across Europe will need to be decommissioned and dismantled in the next 15 to 20 years.
ELKINS PARK, Pa. — James M. Caldwell, OD, has been appointed dean of student affairs at Salus University.A 1982 graduate of Butler High School and a 1989 graduate of Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO), Dr. Caldwell completed an optometric residency at the PCO clinical facility, The Eye Institute.He began his career at PCO as an admissions officer. Since then, he held a variety of positions including director of student recruitment, director of admissions and, most recently, associate vice president of academic affairs.Dr. Caldwell earned a bachelor's from Gannon University in Erie in 1986. Smith of Gibsonia were among 44 attorneys who attended the annual Pennsylvania Public Defender Trial Skills Training at Carlisle from Aug. 8-11 at the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.The training program is free to the counties and to the attorneys. The cost of the seminar, housing, facilities and materials is paid by federal and state funds.
