Estate closer to control of 3 pricey items

Motion OK'd in Abbott case

The estate of a millionaire from Brady Township, who was killed last summer, appears close to taking possession of three pricey items that have been in contention for months: a Porsche, a motorboat and a motorcycle.

Butler County Judge S. Michael Yeager on Thursday approved a motion for representatives of Kenneth Abbott’s estate to enter a proposed settlement agreement relating to the vehicles’ location with Rayna Regenthal, a New Jersey woman who was the live-in girlfriend of Colin Abbott, Kenneth Abbott’s son and accused killer.

Colin Abbott, 41, is in the Butler County Prison facing allegations that he killed his father and stepmother last summer as part of a plan to gain control of their significant assets.

Prosecutors as well as representatives of Kenneth Abbott’s estate have alleged Colin Abbott took money from his dead father’s accounts to pay off the three items.

Since November, lawyers from the estate have been trying to gain possession of the vehicles. And Regenthal, who they at one point believed to have all three, had been refusing to communicate with them.

When Regenthal failed to appear for a court hearing, Yeager on June 13 issued a warrant for her arrest. The new court records say, the warrant prompted related court proceedings in Regenthal’s home county of Morris, N. J.

Negotiations, and ultimately, the proposed settlement, were the end result, the records state.

In the proposed agreement, Regenthal agrees to turn over possession and title to the boat and chopper-style motorcycle. The Porsche, the court records say, was never in Regenthal’s hands.

Because of that, the estate’s lawyers are requesting a statement from Regenthal about who sold the Porsche, where and when.

In exchange for these actions, representatives of the estate agree to drop Regenthal’s name from a lawsuit related to the alleged missing money. They also agree to stop pursuit of her participation in a related orphan’s court matter, which resulted in the warrant.

The settlement states that each side will have 10 days to act on its promises once a demand is made. The settlement says the first step is to vacate the warrant for Regenthal. Once that is complete, Regenthal will have 10 days to transfer the vehicle titles.

All attorneys involved in the case have been forbidden from speaking to the media until the criminal case is resolved.

Colin Abbott is charged with two counts each of murder and abuse of a corpse. If convicted, Abbott could face the death penalty. If acquitted, he could inherit his father’s estate.
