New SV athletic director has link to past Olympics

JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board Monday night hired a new athletic director two months after choosing not to renew the contract of Greg Caprara.

Heather Lewis of Wexford had been the chief operating officer for a U.S. Olympic Committee National Governing Body. In that role, she was involved in women’s national team qualifications for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

Lewis has been the head field hockey coach, women’s lacrosse coach, associate athletic director and assistant athletic director for Bucknell University.

She also was the president of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Lewis has degrees in zoology and kinesiology from the University of Maryland.

The board by a vote of 5-1 appointed Lewis to the position at a salary of $85,000.

Board Vice President Eric Gordon cast the dissenting vote. After the meeting, he declined to say why he voted no.

In another hiring move, the board appointed Angelo Lettiere III as the assistant instructor of the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.

Lettiere of Finleyville previously worked as a senior military science instructor for the University of Pittsburgh ROTC program.

According to school officials, his salary is not yet determined but will be split between the district and the U.S. Army.
