Man, 21, dies in accident
FOX TWP, Sullivan County — A Butler man died Sunday in an electrical accident while working as a summer wildlife technician.
According to state police in Laporte, Nathan A. McCandless, 21, was using metal equipment when it contacted a power line.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. off Maple Summit Road in Fox Township.
Police report McCandless, who was collecting data on bats, was erecting the equipment in a wooded meadow when an aluminum pole touched the overhead electric line.
The Endless Winds Volunteer Fire Company and the Western Alliance Ambulance Services in Canton responded to the scene.
Sullivan County Deputy Coroner Bruce Body pronounced McCandless dead at the scene.
A 2009 graduate of Butler High School, McCandless received a wildlife and fisheries associate degree from Penn State Dubois.
He was to attend Penn State main campus in the fall for his bachelor’s.
He was the son of Michael and Delores McCandless.
Steighner Funeral Home in Chicora handled funeral arrangements.
