The winner is ... Community Chest prizes announced at 'Monet' mixer
CRANBERRY TWP — The Associated Artists of Butler County has announced the winners of the inaugural Cranberry Township Community Chest Juried Art Exhibit.
The exhibit will remain in place at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road, through Aug. 10. Admission is free.
The winners were announced at the Martinis and Monet mixer and art auction July 11 at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course clubhouse.
Awarded Best of Show and a $300 prize was Lisa Sten of Prospect for her pastel painting “Abi.”
Other winners were:
- Bill Perry of Harmony, first place and a $250 award for the large watercolor painting “Winter Pears”
Pat Patterson of Pittsburgh, second place and $200 for her oil and polyurethane painting “Extreme Nature: Lemon & Slice”
- Tom Sheehan of Butler, third place and $150 for his watercolor “Mitchell Hill”
- William Vrscak of Pittsburgh, honorable mention and $50 for his watercolor “Lyme Regis Bowling Club”
- Jason Shorr of Avalon, honorable mention and $50 for his acrylic painting “To Put the Past Behind You.”
In addition to the cash awards, two artists received corporate purchase awards for their work: “Misty Morning,” a watercolor painting by New Brighton artist Cassandra Crocker was purchased to hang in a UPMC facility, and “Inspired by Ansel,” a black and white photograph by Butler photographer Debra Kuminkoski, was purchased by Cranberry Township.
At the Martinis with Monet event, live auctions of donated artwork by Fred Graff and Bill Vrscak also benefited AABC, and artwork by Damian Mark Cassano and Mary Kay Richardson were sold in a silent auction.
Sheehan and Sten along with Elise Goldman also demonstrated their painting techniques during Cranberry Community Day events on Saturday.
Assisting the Camp Cranberry children in assembling a huge wall mural were Community Chest Kids Art project director Terry Hagen and volunteers Eric Campbell, Elise and Lisa Goldman, Janice Nearhoof, Tom Panei, Dick and Jane Rittelmann, Paul Scanlon, and Marilyn Tynan.
Upcoming Associated Artists’ events include the opening night for the nature and wildlife exhibit on Aug. 3 at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.
The center is open noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and noon to 9 p.m. Fridays. Admission is free.
