Sliders swept over weekend
Radley Haddad hit a two-run homer to highlight a three-run eighth inning, but the Slippery Rock Sliders still came up short in a 6-5 Prospect League loss to the Richmond RiverRats Sunday.
Haddad also singled, while Zach Looney added a pair of singles and an RBI for Slippery Rock (1-5).
Jake Welch and Nolan Earley had three hits apiece with Earley adding a pair of RBIs. Cody Campbell had three hits, including a double, with two RBIs, Derek Trovillion added a single, double and three RBIs and Justin Pearson two singles and three runs scored.
Alex Sroka allowed two runs, both unearned, and six hits over six innings to earn the win for the RiverRats (5-1), while Max Deering was charged with the loss. He surrendered six runs on 13 hits in 5 1-3 innings.
In Saturday’s game, the Sliders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the RiverRats rebounded with four runs in each of the third and fourth innings to post a wild 14-12 victory.
Garrett Ruckel had a double, home run and six RBIs to lead the way for Richmond, which also received a home run, single, two runs and three RBIs from Earley and a single, home run, two runs and two RBIs from Ray Delvalle.
Welch added three hits, three runs and an RBI and Campbell two singles, two runs and two RBIs, also for the RiverRats.
Despite the loss, Derek Peake went 4-for-4, including a home run and double, and scored four runs and drove in two more for the Sliders.
Teammates Dan Hurlimann added two hits — including a home run — scored twice and added three RBIs, while Trent Wooldridge had a single, double and two RBIs, Zach Looney two hits and an RBI and Drew Bryan two singles.
Pete Spear tossed five innings to pick up the win, although he allowed six runs on seven hits. The loss went to Jesse Mowen, who gave up nine runs and nine hits in 3 2-3 innings of work.
