Symbolic Step
CRANBERRY TWP — This past week, a towering cross was placed atop the structural steel at the crest of a hill on Route 19, just past Ehrman Road, on what will be a new 2,400-seat sanctuary for Victory Family Church.
The Rev. John Nuzzo, senior pastor of Victory Family Church, said the new sanctuary is expected to be complete in June or July 2013. The former sanctuary area of the church will be converted into a youth area.
The new sanctuary will add another 55,000 square feet to the existing 68,000-square-foot church building.
Additional parking will be added as part of this project.
The expansion has been a culmination of nearly two years of planning and approval from township officials. It was included in the original part of the master plan when the church was built about six years ago.
Nuzzo has been both pastor and administrator since he started the church in 1993.
Originally from Ohioville, Beaver County, Nuzzo started the church after returning from a mission trip to Africa.
The church was founded at its first site off Freedom Road in 1995.
Victory moved to its current location in 2006 and broke ground last year on a structure to serve as its new sanctuary.
Construction was slowed because of soil conditions that had to be remedied before the foundation could be installed, said Nuzzo.
Once the sanctuary is completed, the church will ultimately look to build a new youth center. There also is room to expand the sanctuary area another 4,200 square feet in two wings, that could potentially be used for classroom space.“After the sanctuary is built, our focus will be back to our families' needs,” said Nuzzo. “We're looking forward to keep meeting the needs of families in Cranberry Township and the surrounding area.”
