B.C. Bears pound Lake Erie, 42-0
Bob Manno tossed a pair of touchdown passes and the Butler County Bears’ defense recorded another shutout in a 42-0 win over the Lake Erie Panthers in Heartland Football League action at Cuyahoga Height High School Saturday night.
Butler (5-1 overall, 4-1 in the league) led 7-0 at halftime, but scored touchdowns in its first four possessions on the second half to put the game away.
Justin Sanderson finished off an 11-play, 70-yard drive with a 12-yard TD run to put the Bears up 7-0 midway through the second quarter.
Fullback Matt Robinson scored on a 1-yard plunge, Manno found Karns City graduate Jerrod Hutchison for a 19-yard score and then hit Moniteau grad Jereme Loos on a 9-yard score to make it 28-0.
Eugene Clark and Steve Cupec put the finishing touches on the rout with TD scampers in the fourth quarter.
Cupec led the ground attack for the Bears with 83 yards on 11 carries.
Loos caught a pair of passes for 31 yards and a score.
Lake Erie managed just 1 yard of total offense against the Bears defense, which forced four turnovers and recorded five quarterback sack. Linebacker Justin Switzer had three of those sacks and also recovered a fumble.
Butler’s defense is now ranked No. 1 in the league, giving up a mere 2.4 points per game.
The three game winning streak is the longest in franchise history.
Manno, who was the starting quarterback at Slippery Rock University two decades ago, finished 7-of-12 for 83 yards and two touchdown. He also threw three interceptions.
Butler will host the Erie Invaders at 7 p.m. Saturday at Art Bernardi Stadium.
