Saxonburg's Cahill appears on stage
PITTSBURGH — Saxonburg native and professional actress Allison Cahill will appear in the comedy “Lettice and Lovage” opening tonight at the Grey Box Theatre, 3595 Butler St. in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh.
Cahill will be playing Charlotte “Lotte” Schoen to Susan Martinelli’s Lettice Douffet. The pair worked together several years ago in “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.”
This comedy by Peter Shaffer, author of “Amadeus,” tells the story of Lettice Douffet, a tour guide at one of England’s least stately homes.
Bored with the official storyline, Lettice begins to insert wild theatrical embellishments, thrilling her gullible guests but raising the ire of Lotte Schoen, staunch guardian of the Preservation Trust. But what starts out as a battle of wits quickly turns into a conspiracy of comrades.
Cahill was last seen locally as Mrs. Sowerberry in the Pittsburgh CLO production of “Oliver” a year ago.
She also has appeared as Kimberly in “Kimberly Akimbo,” Molly in CLO’s “The Full Monty,” Mother in “Barefoot in the Park,” Amanda in “The Glass Menagerie” and Roxy in “Chicago.”
Showtimes for “Lettice and Lovage” are 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through July 7, with a matinee at 2 p.m. July 1.
