BUTLER TWP — This year's Monster Bash takes place Friday through Sunday and features the world premiere of the completed documentary about special effects master Ray Harryhausen.

Coming from England to premiere the documentary will be Harryhausen's friend, Mark Mawston, who along with Martine Beswick, star of Harryhausen's “One Million Years B.C.,” will introduce the film at 6 p.m. June 22 at the Butler Days Inn, Route 8.

The event theme is “prehistoric monsters” and celebrate films from the silent film era through the 1950s.

Daily admission is $20, and a three-day admission is available for $45. Children younger than 12 are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Call 724-238-4317.

HARMONY — The world premier of a musical tribute to George Rapp's Harmony Society, a commune of Germans who founded Harmony and two other American communities early in the 19th century, will be performed July 14 by saxophonist Sean Murphy.Composer Ruby Fulton of Baltimore wrote “Famous Broken Line,” one of four works that Murphy will play at the 7:30 p.m. concert at Grace Church of Harmony, Main & Mercer streets.The work was commissioned by Historic Harmony, Murphy and Baltimore saxophonist Anna Meadors.The recital is presented by Historic Harmony, the historical society that operates the eight-property Harmony Museum.Admission is free. SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's Old Stone House will be the site of a program about what life was like in the late 18th and early 19th centuries from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14 and 15.Re-enactors of American history will present information and demonstrations on animal trapping and trading, tomahawk and knife throwing, blacksmithing and general survival skills from the frontier days in Western Pennsylvania.The program will focus on travel during the 1750 to 1850s era, including stagecoach stops such as the Old Stone House.A food demonstration and tasting of items from the time period will be offered inside the museum.The program is free, but a $3 per person, or $5 per family, donation is requested.Old Stone House is at the intersection of routes 8, 528 and 173.
