Company inks nuke plant pact
CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric and the Nuclear Power Company of India Limited on Wednesday signed a memorandum to work to build nuclear power plants in India.
The groups now will seek an agreement that would include preliminary licensing and site development at the Mithivirdi site in Gujarat.
The company said this represented significant progress toward the realization of a 2008 India-U.S. civil nuclear agreement.
“This agreement is an important step which will allow Westinghouse and NPCIL to continue the work necessary for keeping the Mithivirdi project moving forward,” said Gary Urquhart, vice president and managing director of Westinghouse India, in a release.
