The 100 block of West New Castle Street, closed to create an urban park, will have its opening Friday with a 5 p.m. dedication and the city's first Summer Jam concert at 6 p.m.
Friday's concert will feature Amanda Noah, Shift Change and Full Circle. Through Aug. 10, concerts will be given at the plaza Friday evenings, with every other Friday featuring three bands as part of a Summer Jam series.
There also will be free lunchtime concerts Wednesdays by Tom Panei and Shady Lady Productions, and Tuesday afternoons will have the “Seven Series” arts, performances and cultural demonstrations. A movie presentation is planned one Sunday a month.
An events schedule will be available at ButlerDowntown.org, as well as at businesses.
The performance list includes the May Hollow Band on June 15, Angel Blue Band on June 20, Justin Fabus Band on June 22 and Terry Lee Spencer Band on June 29.
The Butler County Symphony Association's first garden tour is June 16. The self-guided event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Six gardens are included. A reception will be held at the Meridian Gift Shop Gazebo, 298 Meridian Road.The tour is a fundraiser for the symphony association. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 that day. This year’s Monster Bash will be June 22 to 24 at the Butler Days Inn, Route 8.The theme will be “Prehistoric Monster Bash” and celebrate films from the silent film era through the 1950s, presented by Scary Monsters Magazine and Creepy Classics Video.The guest list includes Martine Beswick, who starred with Raquel Welch and John Richardson in “One Million Years B.C.” and Ricou Browning, who portrayed Gill-Man in “Creature from the Black Lagoon,” and Richard Kiel, who appeared in “Eegah” “House of the Damned” and as the character “Jaws” in some James Bond films.Admission is $20 with a three-day admission for $45.
