Butler City, Meridian split doubleheader
Meridian and Butler City split a doubleheader in legion baseball action Saturday at Pullman Park.
Butler City won the second game, 2-1, despite being no-hit by Meridian’s Cody West.
BC’s first run was scored by Jordan Winters, who reached on an error, stole second and third and came home on a fielder’s choice.
Zach Milligan accounted for the winning run when he walked, stole second, moved to third on a fielder’s choice and scored on Tim Butler’s sacrifice fly.
The victory on the mound went to Josh Friel, who pitched a great game of his own, striking out 14 while allowing just five singles to Meridian.
Zakk Foringer led Meridian’s 9-7 victory in the first game, picking up a complete-game win while adding a single, double and run batted in at the plate. Also for Meridian, Joey Friel singled and drove in a run and Kyle Peskowitz doubled.
Winters singled and doubled for Butler City.
Also playing a twinbill were Center Township and host Zelienople, with Center Township sweeping by scores of 8-6 and 5-3.
Aaron Voelker singled three times and doubled to lead the Game 1 victory before he earned the win on the mound in Game 2. The second triumph featured two singles from Patrick Byrd and three base hits off the bat of Shane Peters.
