Lucy R. Kernusz

Kernusz

Lucy R. Kernusz, 102, of Harmony passed away peacefully on Friday at the home she shared with her daughter Barbara and son-in-law Peter LaVecchia.

Born Feb. 2, 1910, in Orange, N.J., she was the last living child of the late Frank and Agnes Pepe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Kernusz, who died in 1972, three brothers and eight sisters.

Lucy was the seventh child and always thought she was the lucky one. It turns out that whoever knew her were the fortunate ones because she was a kind, warm and generous woman who always was smiling and had a great sense of humor. Her love of life and for family and friends will live on in our hearts forever. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, reading and traveling. Lucy had fond memories of a trip to Italy with her sister, Ann, and many cruises with family and friends.

Lucy lived in West Orange, N.J., and worked at the New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. in several positions and locations for more than 40 years until she retired in 1965. She also lived in Florida for many years and enjoyed spending time there with old and new friends, as well as working as a volunteer reading to school children and for the American Cancer Society. In 1995, she moved to Harmony.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara and her husband, Peter LaVecchia; granddaughter, Larissa and her husband, Steven Gavlak, of Elton, Pa., and granddaughter, Renee and her husband, Jeremy Previty, of Economy Borough; four great-grandchildren, Tanner, Sarah, Alexia and Michael; brother-in-law, Frank Kernusz of Hillside, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
