SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's Amy Halls and Janelle Krantz have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.

Student athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.3 GPA and be a starter or key reserve.

Halls scored 46 goals and added 19 assists for The Rock women's lacrosse team. Halls graduated last week with a degree in business marketing with minors in communications and management and maintained a 3.62 GPA.

Krantz, a junior, went 17-6 as a member of SRU's women's tennis's No. 3 doubles player and was 10-10 as primarily the No. 4 singles player. She has a 4.0 GPA and is a therapeutic recreation major.

LATROBE — BC3 golfer Nick Legacy, a graduate of Butler High School, placed third at the recent NJCAA Region XX Golf Championships, which was held at the Elks Golf Club.Legacy, who maintained a 4.0 GPA this past spring semester and has qualified to take part in the NJCAA National Tournament June 3-8 at the Chautauqua (N.Y.) Golf Club.

NEW WILMINGTON — Butler High graduate Eric King was named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference first team squad while Seneca Valley grad Phil Double earned honorable mention accolades as members of the Thiel College baseball team.King, a second baseman, hit .343 with 21 RBIs and 35 runs scored while Double, a senior, was second on the team with a .354 average and added 40 hits and 31 RBIs despite missing six games.

DETROIT — The Pittsburgh Pirates say they have acquired minor league infielder Drew Sutton from the Atlanta Braves for cash.Sutton has hit .270 in 38 games with Triple-A Gwinnett.From staff and wire reports
