The 16th annual Outdoor Extravaganza, sponsored by the Butler Outdoor Club, is planned for Memorial Day weekend. Base camp is Breakneck Campground near McConnells Mill and Moraine state parks. Activities will include biking, hikes, canoe and kayak trips, a float raft trip, horseback riding and rock climbing. Activities begin 9 a.m. each day. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, plans summer programs for children. Sessions are planned at Moraine State Park. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily. Call 724-794-6011.
REGIONMcConnells Mill State Park, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, will open the gristmill on Sunday and it will remain open through October. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. “The Ultimate Wildflower Hike” begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, and a Taste of History: Dutch Oven Cooking will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Call 724-368-3612.Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will host its river sojourn on June 9, with a canoe trip along the northern Youghiogheny River. Participants will start at Yough River Park in Connellsville and travel 14 miles to Hazelbaker’s Bottom Yough Outfitters in Layton.
