Greensburg Salem ousts Knoch softball

Moniteau wins wild affair over Karns City

Alex Garsteck smacked an RBI double in the fourth inning and Greensburg Salem made it stand in a 1-0 WPIAL Class AAA first-round softball victory over Knoch Wednesday at Gateway High School.

Jane Oberdorf limited the Knights (12-7) to one hit — a single by Abbi Smithmyer — while striking out 10 batters and issuing one walk.

Oberdorf outdueled Britni Brandstetter, who allowed the Lions (14-2) just four hits. Brandstetter fanned six batters and allowed zero walks.

Ÿ In other games:

Moniteau’s Chloe Eshenbaugh had a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to highlight a three-run outburst, then Holly Colosimo’s RBI single plated Heather McMillen in a two-run eighth inning in a wild 9-8 Warriors victory over Karns City.

Unfortunately, McMillen broke her ankle on the game-winning slide at the plate.

Colosimo finished with five hits and three RBI while Eshenbaugh had three hits and three RBI and Sydney Boben two singles, a double and two RBI to lead a 14-hit attack.

Sabrina Johns led Karns City with a single, two doubles and three RBI.
