Many years ago my Mother, the late Eva Mae Dumbaugh, entered a recipe contest in the Butler Eagle.
I can really say my Mother was excited beyond words when she received the news she had won.

<B>Cake2 cups white sugar1¹⁄₂ teaspoons baking soda²⁄₃ cup shortening¹⁄₄ teaspoon salt3 eggs1 cup buttermilk3 cups cake flour1 cup mashed bananasIcing1¹⁄₂ cups brown sugar6 tablespoons water2 tablespoons white corn syrupWhites of 2 eggs6 marshmallows1 teaspoon vanilla</B>Sift the flour, then measure three cups. Add baking soda and salt, then sift three times. Have the cup of bananas and the cup of buttermilk ready.Cream sugar and shortening and beat well. Add vanilla, eggs one at a time, beating well. Add flour alternately with the buttermilk, beat well. Add bananas last.Bake in an oblong pan or two 9-inch pans at 325 degrees for 45 minutes.Boil brown sugar, water and syrup until it spins a thread, then pour over beaten egg whites. Beat well, add marshmallows and flavoring. Spread on cake.
