SR boys, girls break records at invite

The Slippery Rock boys track and field team set two meet records and finished in third place out of 22 teams at the Central Valley Invitational Saturday.

Ryan Thompson captured the 800-meter run, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:57.8 while the 400 relay squad of Thompson, Ty Udy, Braden Sloan and Brock Sloan won with a time of 3:32.3.

The same foursome also won the invite's 3,200 relay (8:17.6) while Travis Kroner won the shot put (48-7Z\x) and was third in the discus (115-10).

Other medalists included Braden Sloan (third, 400, 52.4), Thompson (third, 1,600, 4:28.3), Jason Anna (fourth, 1,600, 4:33.8; fifth, 3200, 9:59.3): Dylan Gerlach (third, pole vault, 11-0) and Davis Dimit (fourth, 110 hurdles, 15.76).

In the girls invite, the 3,200 relay squad of Olivia Green, Anna Cessar, Jessica Bennett and Sarah Kadlubek not only won the event, but broke the meet record by nine seconds (10:10.1).

Placing second was Jessica Bennett in the 3,200 (12:14.2) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:34.5), Anna Cessar in the 800 (2:33.2; Heather Urbaniak in the 100 hurdles (16.48) and fifth in the high jump (4-8).

Ali Lotz was third in the 100 hurdles (16.62), Megan Cravener third in the discus (97-0) and sixth in the shot put (30-3); Green fourth in the 800 (2:35.8); Molly Joyce sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.9) and 300 hurdles (51.55) and Megan Stephenson sixth in the 100 (13.27).

• Moniteau's Heather Porter set the school record and set a meet record by clearing 9 feet, 6 inches in the girls pole vault at the Union-New Castle Invitational Friday.

Nikki Yeckel placed second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.9 seconds while Ashley Brehm was third in the javelin with a throw of 102-8.

Seneca Valley defeated Ambridge 2-1 in the championship match of the Meadville Tournament Saturday.They Raiders defeated McDowell, Cambridge Springs and Meadville to roll up an 8-0 mark in pool play and received a first-round bye.The squad then downed Conneaut Valley in a one-game match, then beat Altoona in a two-game, best-of-three series.Seneca Valley returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Butler.

Jake Stoner had four hits, including two doubles, with three RBIs, Ryan Denny added four hits and Garett Goslaw added a single, double and RBI as Butler outlasted North Allegheny 11-10 in 10 innings.Jesse Savisky limited the Tigers to one run through 6⅓ innings before the Tigers posted nine runs in the frame to take a 10-7 lead.Butler would tie the game 10-all in the home half of the seventh inning before Butler plated the winning run in the 10th inning.
