Furl, Mars roll past Kittanning
Nathan Furl struck out eight in five innings of work as the Mars baseball team routed Kittanning 13-4 Friday afternoon.
The Planets (6-3, 3-1) pounded out 16 hits in the game. Nick Comport had a triple and scored two runs and Matt Eperesi and Kevin Giallonardo each drove in a pair of runs.
Elsewhere:
• Ethan Williams struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings of work and Derek Sadowski drove in three runs as Karns City routed Redbank Valley 12-2.
Nate Weckerly had three singles and two RBI for the Gremlins (5-1).
• Connor Hogue had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run, but Slippery Rock couldn't hang on to a late lead in a 7-6 loss to Oil City in eight innings.
The Oilers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie it and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
