I agree with you on the pension issue 100%.
Regarding the pay increase, I believe that people should make market-competitive wages - as long as it's affordable by the employer, public or private. If the increase is 20% to remain competitive, so be it. If it's 20% higher than similar positions, it's wrong, and elected officials should be held accountable.
