Knoch softball stays unbeaten

The Knoch softball team pounded out 11 hits and rolled to a 9-5 win over section foe Kittanning on a blustery Tuesday afternoon to remain undefeated this season.

The Knights got an RBI triple from Abbi Smithmyer and also received doubles from Jhoey DeWalt and Abbie Thrower.

Britni Brandstetter picked up the win, striking out four in seven innings of work.

The Knights are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Section 5-AAA. Knoch won just four games last season and two in 2010.

In other action:

• Kalene Ireland hit a home run in the second inning, but Slippery Rock (1-3) lost to Mercer by a score of 7-5.

Seneca Valley 3, Pine-Richland 0 — Chad Albert had 10 kills, Eric Speicher seven kills and five blocks, Brian Pudlo five kills and five aces and Max McCloskey 25 assists in the Raiders' 25-12, 25-18, 25-9 victory.

Boys LacrosseTanner Kotch scored six goals and had seven assists to lead Butler to a 20-9 win at North Hills.J.J. Raab added five goals and Cody Bachman four goals and one assist.Seth Horwat, Jake Whann and Ian Bergbigler each played well defensively for Butler (3-2, 3-0).In junior varsity action, Clay Bachman and Jamison Smith combined to score six goals and hand out six assists in Butler's 9-0 win.

Girls LacrosseKelly Cundiff scored four goals and Morgan Midkiff added three as Seneca Valley eked out an 8-7 win over Quaker Valley.Haile Sandor stopped 10 shots in goal for the Raiders (5-1).
