GROVE CITY — Grove City High School will present the musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” at 7 p.m. April 12, 13 and 14 in the Grove City High School Theater, 511 Highland Ave.

Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for adults and will be sold at the door.

“The Drowsy Chaperone” is an homage to American musicals of the Jazz Age, examining the effect musicals have on the fans who adore them.

The Man in Chair, a mousy Broadway fanatic, seeking to cure his “non-specific sadness,” listens to a recording of a fictional 1928 musical comedy, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” As he listens to this rare recording, he is transported into the musical. The characters appear in his dingy apartment, and it is transformed into an impressive 1920s mansion where a wedding is about to take place between vaudeville star Janet Van de Graaff and oil tycoon Robert Martin. Janet's producer, Mr. Feldzieg has to do all he can to stop the wedding, so he can keep his leading lady and pay his debt to some threatening thugs.

The book is by Bob Martin and Don McKellar with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.

The show is being directed by Patrick McElroy. Trevor Greenfield is vocal director and pit orchestra conductor.

Anna Hussey is assistant vocal director; Ashley Hazy, choreographer; Samantha Andrews, stage manager; and Katie Calano, costumer.

Hasia White is student director while Caroline Wilson is student technical director.
