Virginia G. Betres
Virginia G. Betres, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Tuesday at the Camden Clark Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 1, 1923, in Butler, to the late Kelly and Freda Abbott Betres.
Virginia, along with her husband, Joseph, were the owners of the Sheik Restaurant on Seventh Street in Parkersburg. Many people will remember her for her Arabic cooking and baking.
She was a woman of faith and a devoted member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg for many years, serving the Eucharistic ministry to the homebound. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Columbus and the Saidnaya-American Club on Mary Street. She loved to travel, cook, spend time with her family and many friends, and play games of chance.
She is survived by three daughters, Donna Schwarz of Crestview, Fla., Joanne (JoJo) Fittro (Bill) of Parkersburg and Jamie Khoury (Sohiel) of Parkersburg, and she was “Situ” to six grandchildren, Kelly, Virginia, Becky, John Eric, Hanna and Joseph. She also was survived by several great-grandchildren; was “Tuffy” to her many nieces and nephews; and was survived by several wonderful friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Sarkis Betres; four sisters, Ann Claypoole, Nellie Ammeen, Josephine Monsour and Madeline Esper; one brother, Daniel (Bobby) Betres; one son-in-law, John Schwarz; and several special friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Leavitt, Dr. Gnegy and the special care units at the Camden Clark Medical Center.
