Man allegedly robs couple

He's accused of brandishing gun

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — State police Sunday arrested a Mercer County man suspected in a daylight home invasion robbery during which he brandished a gun and stole nearly $300 from a couple here.

Ryan P. Bowers, 20, of North Liberty is in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Bowers is accused of forcing his way into a New Castle Road mobile home about 1:30 p.m. Saturday and pointing a pistol at the occupants, Jeremy Bell and Della Wise, police said.

The suspect, who wore a black mask over his face, demanded money and told the couple, “The gun is already cocked and I will shoot it,” according to court documents.

Bell handed over $40 that he had his pocket.

While the robber rifled through kitchen cabinets, looking for more money, Bell ran out the door and went to a neighbor’s house, where he called for police.

Meanwhile, the suspect continued to demand money from Wise, police said. She eventually directed him to a fire safe in the bedroom. He took $240 from the safe and left the room.

But before the robber left the home, he pointed a gun at Wise’s head and told her if she said anything, he would “pull the trigger.”

The couple told police they recognized Bowers as the robber. They know him and recognized his voice, police said.

Additionally, at least at one point he lifted his mask to speak, and exposed his face, documents said.

District Judge Sue Haggerty that day issued an arrest warrant for Bowers.

Police on Sunday arrested Bowers at his home. A search of the house turned up the gun allegedly used in the robbery, as well as “a large number” of prescription pills and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Haggerty arraigned Bowers on charges of robbery, terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property. simple assault and reckless endangerment.
