Laura Metrick

Laura Metrick of Mount Chestnut, the 2011 Big Butler Fair Queen, was awarded second runner-up in the 2012 Pennsylvania Fair Queen competition.

Metrick was recognized Jan. 21 at the annual joint convention of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs and Pennsylvania State Showmen’s Association.

The contestants were evaluated on public speaking skills, knowledge of the agricultural industry as well as their poise and personal presentation in an evening gown competition.

Metrick is a freshman at Penn State Behrend/Erie University, studying agricultural and extension education.

She is the daughter of Ken and Cathy Metrick of Mount Chestnut and a 2011 graduate of Butler High School.

Drew An Brubaker of Lancaster was crowned Queen and Amanda Mitcheltree of New Castle was first runner-up.

ZELIENOPLE — Leslie Auld and Beth Marshall have joined the Zelienople Public Library board of trustees.Other board members include Debbie Carbeau, Mike Razaunaskas, Susie Altemus, Matt Olayer, Alice Lee Paul, Marietta Reeb and Pat Rhodes.Those interested in serving on the library board, contact Library Director Jan Lawrence.The board of trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22.
