Country Buffet closes

BUTLER TWP — Old Country Buffet in the Moraine Pointe Plaza closed Thursday as part of a bankruptcy filing by its parent company.

Buffets Inc., based in Eagan, Minn., filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday. The company also owns HownTown Buffet, Ryan’s and Fire Mountain restaurants.

Workers on Friday cleaned the restaurant in Butler Township.

Melissa Sheer, a spokeswoman for Buffets Inc., said each Old Country Buffet employed 35 to 50 full-time, part-time and managerial staff, although she does not have the exact number of employees for the Moraine Pointe Plaza store.

The restaurant was dark Monday with signs in the window saying that the buffet is “permanently” closed. They refer customers to another buffet in the chain in Beaver County.

The Butler Township restaurant, which survived a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filed by Buffet Inc. in 2008, opened in the early 2000s.
