Pollock reaches 1,000 points

RIMERSBURG — It's been quite a winter for Brody Pollock.

The Union senior found out a few weeks ago that he had been named to the Associated Press Class A All-State team as a defensive back.

Last week against A-C Valley, Pollock scored his 1,000th career point as a guard on the Golden Knights' basketball team.

“I don't even know what to say to be honest,” Pollock said, a smile on his face as wide as his wingspan. “It's been a pretty exciting time.”

Pollock only needed seven points to reach the milestone against the Falcons Friday and got them early.

He ended up with 30 in the win.

“It feels good to be in that 1,000-point group,” Pollock said. “There are a lot of good players in that group.”

Pollock became the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 points, joining Kyle Hilliard, George Shafer, Jake Weckerly, Dustin Laughlin, Eric Buzard, Troy Heeter, Don Eustice and Scott Booth.

Union boys basketball coach Karen Davis watched Pollock grow up around athletics.

“He's just a natural athlete,” Davis said. “Everything he does, he does well.”

Pollock has grown since his junior year. He's a little taller and a lot more muscular after hitting the weight room hard over the past year.

“He's bulked up,” Davis said. “He's got some meat on him. He's just having a good year.”

Pollock would like nothing better than to make even more memories during his senior season.

Last year, The Golden Knights advanced to the state tournament. This season, they are off to an 11-1 start.

“We want to get back into the state playoffs again,” Pollock said. “But we can't get too far ahead of ourselves. We have to come to play every night and beat the teams we need to beat. We can't take a night off.”
