When we log into the internet we take lots of things for granted. We assume that we'll be able to access whatever web site we want, whenever we want. What makes this possible is Network Neutrality - the guiding principle that preserves the free and open internet.

It means that service providers may not discriminate between different kinds of content and applications. It guarantees a level playing field for all websites.

Cable companies wanted to charge money to web site operators to speed up their sites. Those sites that don't make a deal will have their sites slowed down.

Think about this for a minute. Anybody who was competing with the cable company would automatically be slowed down - Cass refers to Netflix, but there are others.

Since Republicans were for this abomination, it only makes sense that their preferred sites - FOX for one, would be sped up, while their competition - MoveOn or Mother Jones would be slowed down.

Make no mistake, without Net Neutrality the internet as we know it today, would not exist.
