Leland Merle West, 80, of Slippery Rock Township passed away Thursday at 1:53 p.m. in the Trinity Living Center in Grove City.

He was born in Slippery Rock Township on July 22, 1931, to Burnett Lynn West and Helene Harps West. He married Mary Lou “Lisa” Lange on Nov. 12, 1957.

He retired from General Electric in Grove City in 1996 where he was a machinist. He also was a self-employed farmer, raising beef cattle. He also worked at the McGowan Lumber Co. for 12 years before going to General Electric.

He was affiliated with the Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion in Harrisville Post 852.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Lorraine Elizabeth “Lori” (husband, James H.) Shaffer of Grove City; one son, Leland Jochen West (companion, Lisa Armstrong) of Slippery Rock; one brother, Richard L. (Joanie) West of Grove City; two sisters, Elaine (Dave) Eller of Fairfield, Calif., and Hazel Allen of Slippery Rock; and three grandsons, Matthew L. West, Randy M. West and Joel T. Shaffer.

<B>WEST</B> — Visitation for Leland Merle West, who died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Mumaw II, pastor of the Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, officiating.
