The Knoch swimming team wasted little time in qualifying its athletes for the WPIAL championship meet.

The boys team downed Burrell 91-78, while the girls team fell 85-81.

On the boys side, six events saw qualifiers and there were three on the girls side.

Austin Wittmer and Nathan Walls picked up two wins apiece in individual events with Walls a part of two winning relays.

Madison Whaley and Anna Cunningham each won two events and were members of the two winning relay teams.

Knoch will return to action Monday at Seneca Valley.

Indiana 93, Butler 92 (girls); Indiana 114, Butler 72 (boys) — The Tornado girls just fell short in this season-opening meet, but the 200 medley relay team, along with Macie Pennington (500 free), Taylor Campbell (100 breaststroke) and Kaitlyn Kaufman (diving) all qualified for the WPIAL championships.Travis Myers (100 back) and Levi Cetti and Max Mook (diving) also qualified for the WPIAL finals.Butler will host Mars on Thursday.

Private SchoolsWestmoreland County Christian 39, First Baptist Christian 38 (basketball) — Tommy Barnhart and Josh Drake scored seven points each for FBC.

HockeyPlum 4, Butler 2 (freshmen) — The Golden Tornado (2-4) received goals from Josh McGowan and Evan Kison. Gage Crissman and Ben Rodgers had assists and goalie Jake Curry made 24 saves.
