Wilfrid Alexis Zacherl

Wilfrid Alexis Zacherl, 86, of Slippery Rock died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born in Clarion, Nov. 7, 1924, he was the son of Edward Zacherl and Augusta Schill.

He was married to Anne Bennis Zacherl, who survives at their home.

Mr. Zacherl retired as a bookkeeper in the coal and trucking industry.

He was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock.

He attended Clarion State College for three years.

Wilfrid was a master sergeant in the 13th Army Airborne Division in the European theater in World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Edward P. (Kathy) Zacherl of Fullerton, Calif., Daniel F. (Carol) Zacherl of Slippery Rock, Michael B. (Robin) Zacherl of Pittsburgh and William R. (Robin) Zacherl of Woodstock, Ga.; two daughters, Kathryn A. (Michael) Brown of Canton, Ga., and Jule M. (Gary) Oshiro of Buena Park, Calif.; a Rotary exchange daughter, Cheryl (Frank) Alton of Pretoria, South Africa; and a sister, Henrietta McCort of Niceville, Fla. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

<B>ZACHERL</B> — A memorial Mass for Wilfrid Alexis Zacherl, who died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, will be celebrated at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 670 S. Main St., Slippery Rock, at a time and date to be announced. Father Kevin Poecking, pastor of St. Peter Church of Slippery Rock, will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Harrisville. There will be no public viewing or visitation.Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.Arrangements are under the direction of <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock.
