SRU women among final 16

Kara Mullins and Shelby Ward both scored a goal to lift the Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Kutztown in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Butler High School product Lisa Rodgers tallied eight saves and did not surrender a goal until Kutztown was awarded a penalty kick with 9 seconds left in the match.

SRU (16-4-2) will face California (Pa.) University in the Round of 16 at the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., on Friday.

FootballGrove City College scored all of its points in the first half as the Wolverines clobbered host Thiel 35-3 in the season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon.Blaine Miller rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns to lead Grove City (3-7, 3-5).Seneca Valley graduate Dustin Anewalt added three catches for 28 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines.
