Doughboy Park Rededicated
Phil McDonald, a member of Company “L” of the 112th Infantry, 28th Division, places a wreath at the base of the World War I monument in November of 1981 at Doughboy Park at Mercer, New Castle and Cunningham streets in Butler. The park, which was dedicated Nov. 11, 1926, was rededicated as part of the 1981 Veterans Day activities. The day’s observance also included a Veterans Day dinner-dance and awards program, where Gilmore F. “Gil” Herrit was honored. This year, the annual Veterans Day parade will take place downtown on Friday.
