Ryan nets 3 as KC soccer rolls, 4-0

Justin Ryan netted a hat trick on Senior Night to lead the Karns City boys soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Redbank Valley Thursday.

Evan McGarvey also scored and added two assists for the Gremlins, whose defense did not allow the Bulldogs to register a shot on goal.

Karns City (10-0) will host West Shamokin Saturday.

Mars 3, Freeport 0 — Spencer Posey tallied two goals, Dave Jackson had one goal and Ryan Gralish two assists to key the Planets.

Knoch 1, Highlands 0 — James Conklin accounted for the game's lone goal thanks to an assist from Ben Andrews to lead the Knights to the section triumph.Andy Fritz made five saves for Knoch (7-3, 6-3).

<B>Freeport 3, West Shamokin 0 — </B>Ashley Sample had 18 kills, 12 service points, four aces and four blocks to lead the Yellowjackets to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-14 victory.Alexis Schrecengost added 10 kills, 10 points, three aces and three blocks, Lynsey Gugino 32 assists, 12 points, five kills and three blocks and Jessica McFadden 33 digs, all for Freeport (11-0, 10-0), which hosts Kittanning Tuesday.<B>A-C Valley 3, Redbank Valley 1 — </B>Tricia Kerlin had 22 service points, 10 digs and six kills and Alexis Linamen 12 points, nine kills and nine digs as the Falcons bested the Bulldogs 25-14, 15-25, 25-11, 25-23.Kelsey Boocks added 10 kills, Meredith Snyder 19 assists, six kills and six digs, Makayli Terwilliger four blocks and three kills and Abby Wetzel 15 digs.The junior varsity squad also won 2-1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-22).A-C Valley (7-1) will host North Clarion Tuesday.

The Butler boys team finished in second place and Slippery Rock earned seventh at the 29-team Tam-O'Shanter Tournament Thursday.Neshannock won the event with a 315, one stroke ahead of runner-up Butler and third-place Shenango, which lost the tiebreaker to the Tornado.Phil Schultz led Butler with a 76 while Brett Rinker paced the Rockets with a 78.Slippery Rock returns to action Saturday at the District 10 team playoffs at the Country Club of Meadville.The six region champions will compete with the winning squad to advance to the PIAA Western Tom's Run.<B>2-Butler (316):</B> Phil Schultz 76, Corey Morabito 77, Connor Gray 80, Gino Baraffio 83<B>7-Slippery Rock (334):</B> Brett Rinker 78, Bob Paczkowski 81, Alec Nebel 82, Alex Sparn 93

<B>Karns City 2, Wilmington 1 (OT) — </B>Breann Wood scored off an assist from Caterina LoPresti to give the Gremlins the non-conference win.Chelsea McCartney scored the Gremlins' first goal off an assist by Wood. Jensen Bachman made 11 saves for Karns City (12-0-1), which hosts Brookville Thursday.

In the first round of the WPIAL Class AA Girls Doubles Tennis Championships at Shady Side Academy Thursday, Knoch's Abby Conlon and Alyssa King lost to Mt. Pleasant's Shayla Landman and April Bradley, while Katie Conlon and Peggy Kanterman lost to Beaver's Kendra Tetrick and Megan Zagorski 10-5.Knoch will return to action today in a makeup match at Vincentian.

<B>First Baptist Christian 6, WPSD 0 (boys soccer) — </B>Matt Cumberland scored three goals, Tommy Barnhart, Edison Park and Bret Nickerson one each. Brent Block and Nickerson each had an assist.<B>First Baptist Christian 3, WPSD 0 (girls volleyball) — </B>Lauren Hughes scored 10 points, Noelle Garrison had nine aces and eight kills, Hildi Burleigh 11 assists.
