Mars Centennial School fifth grader Megan Hand searches Friday for minnows in Breakneck Creek in Adams Township.
Tejas Nidigatt checks out a tiny crayfish. Each fall, Centennial fifth-graders go to Breakneck to study the physical, chemical and biological properties of the water. Students check out the temperature, depth, speed and pH level of the stream, and collect crayfish, mayflies and other critters. The study has gone on for 15 years.
