Kenneth Donald Vogel Sr.

Kenneth Donald Vogel Sr., 56, of 333 Liberty St., Butler, died Monday.

Born Jan. 24, 1955, in Pittsfield, Mass., he was a son of Barbara Besaw and the late Donald Vogel.

He had earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and in business, had a Pennsylvania Real Estate License and also had a Pennsylvania Administrator's License for Nursing Homes.

Mr. Vogel had been a self-employed contractor, owning and operating Vogel's Contracting until 2008, and recently had been a taxi driver.

He was a member of the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, was a member of the Shriners at the Palestine Temple in Cranston, R.I., was a 32nd degree Free Mason at the Jenk's Lodge in Rhode Island, volunteered for the Red Cross in Butler and was a member of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy.

Ken had enjoyed bottle digging, fishing, hiking, reading and conversing about philosophy, theology, and art work, and most of all, spending time with his family.

A veteran of the Vietnam War era, he served with the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Earlene L. (Pratt) Vogel, who he married Jan. 24, 1972; a son, Christopher Lee Vogel and his wife, Amy, of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Dylan Tyler Vogel; his mother, Barbara; a daughter-in-law, Crystal Vogel of Springdale; a sister, Beverly and Tony Lawrence of Barrington, R.I.; four brothers, Ronald and Brenda Vogel of California, Donny and Mickey Vogel of Massachusetts, Kevin Vogel and family of Massachusetts and Gary Vogel and family of Massachusetts; his stepmother, Peg Vogel of Wareham, R.I.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Vogel; a son, Kenneth Vogel Jr., and his stepmother, Ruth Vogel.

<B>VOGEL </B>— Friends of Kenneth Donald Vogel Sr., who died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Gerald Lutz will officiate.
