John M. Heim, 81, of Butler died Monday morning at the LifeCare Hospital of Pittsburgh in Bellevue.

He was born in Butler, July 30, 1930, a son of Victor A. and Catherine Vogelbacher Heim.

A graduate of Butler High School, he had earned an associate science degree in physics at Butler County Community College, and he attended the University of Pittsburgh.

For 31 years, he was employed by the West Penn Power Co., working in marketing-energy management and sales.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, John had served as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW Post 249 in Butler and the Butler Elks Lodge 170.

He served as a member of the Butler Area Sewer Authority Board of Directors since 1980, a position he resigned Jan. 27 of this year. He also had served as a former chairman for the City of Butler Code Hearing Board for 20 years and conducted its hearings.

John was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, where he married Joanne Knauer on June 1, 1957.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two children, Thomas M. Heim of Butler and Patti L. Amos, and her husband, Dr. Brad Amos, of McCandless Township, Allegheny County; three grandchildren, Austin, Bailey and Madison Amos; and a sister, Shirley Lehnerd of Butler

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

<B>HEIM</B> — Friends of John M. Heim, who died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, will be received at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Following cremation, inurnment will take place at the St. Peter Cemetery, Butler.The family suggests that memorial donations could be made to the Gerald McGinnis Cardiovascular Institute at Allegheny General Hospital, 320 E.
