Moniteau on a mission

Moniteau's Dustin Geagen (7) leaps out of the reach of St Marys defender Sam Guido for some of his 282 yards rushing Friday night. The Warriors remained undefeated with a 39-15 victory.

CHERRY TWP — The Moniteau Warriors ran over the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen with 474 yards on 50 carries, winning 39-15 Friday night to keep their perfect season going.

Dustin Geagan ran for 282 yards on 22 carries with four touchdowns, following a 184-yard performance last week.

Moniteau (5-0, 3-0) coach Jeff Campbell said it was an easy choice to run.

“We're a take-what-they'll-give-us team,” Campbell said. “If a team's going to drop eight guys in the passing lane like they were, we're going to run the ball.”

The Warriors defense helped out by holding the Dutchmen (4-1, 2-1) to 54 total yards.

“Our (defense) came to play today,” Campbell said. “It was by far our best game defensively of the year.”

After running for over 200 yards the last two weeks, junior fullback Cody Baker was held to 20 rushing yards for the Dutch.

Moniteau quarterback Kyle Armagost didn't have trouble running, either, going for 165 yards on 18 carries, scoring on a 1-yard run in the third quarter that increased Moniteau's lead to 26-7.

Armagost's passing numbers were much more modest, with two completions for 49 yards. He completed a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior Ethan Pry in the second quarter.

Geagan had two touchdowns each in the first and fourth quarters. His longest was 89 yards with 3:09 left in the first period.

Both teams had trouble throwing the ball on the rainy night.

St. Marys' Justin Quiggle, who usually plays running back, was in for injured starting quarterback David Aul. He finished with only 34 passing yards and one interception.

The Dutchmen's only offensive touchdown was a 1-yard run by Baker in the first quarter.

A third-quarter safety and 79-yard kickoff return by Quiggle in the final period finished off the night for the Dutchmen.

Despite staying undefeated, Campbell said there is still room for improvement.

“Our defense was great, offense was OK and special teams played terrible,” Campbell said. “We still haven't played a complete game yet.”

The Warriors will play at Union Thursday night.
