SRU cross-country wins invitational

The Slippery Rock University men's cross-country team placed three runners in the top four and all five scorers in the top 11 in capturing the six-team Lock Haven Invitational Saturday.

Alex Koksal placed second with a time of 25 minutes, 48 seconds on the 8K course.

Morgan Elliott was third, Travis Arrigoni fourth, Michael Beegle sixth and Butler graduate Chris Grooms 11th.

Seneca Valley graduate Chris Geddis ran for the first time this season and placed 22nd.

SRU won with 25 points, just ahead of host Lock Haven (41).

In the women's race, Stephanie Case finished second (22:15 over a 6K course) as SRU (56 points) placed second behind champion Lock Haven (37).

Becky Belding was fifth, followed by Abby Michaelian (15th), Kara Styles (16th) and Caitlin Hancox (18th).

Despite nine kills from Sarah Cadwallader and eight kills from Lisa Bakaitis, it was Gannon that came away with a 25-18, 27-25, 25-18 victory over Slippery Rock (14-2, 3-2) on Saturday.Janna Reilly added 29 assists, eight digs and three blocks for The Rock.

Carolynne Kahl scored on a second opportunity off a corner kick with 1:02 left in regulation to give Kutztown a 1-0 victory over SRU Saturday.Lisa Rodgers made three saves in net for The Rock (3-3-2, 2-2-2).
