Matilda Pauline Matheson, 88, formerly of Prospect, passed away Thursday in the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

She was born July 7, 1923, in New York City, and was the daughter of the late Gustave and Pauline Klein Petersen.

She was a member of the St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church, the Prospect Community Women’s Club, the Ladies Guild of the Church, and the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center. She was a Eucharistic minister and lector for 17 years.

She enjoyed being a volunteer cashier at the church fundraisers and the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department’s food stand at the Big Butler Fair.

She is survived by two sons, James A. Matheson Jr. of Brookline, Mass., and Roger A. Matheson of Newburyport, Mass.; one daughter, Paula Matheson Walker of Gaithersburg, Md.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Matheson Sr., who passed away April 3, 2008.
