NEW YORK — Defending champion Rafael Nadal overwhelmed Andy Roddick right from the start in their U.S. Open quarterfinal, winning 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 to reach the semifinals for the fourth consecutive year.

The second-seeded Nadal compiled a stunning 22-0 edge in forehand winners and broke Roddick six times.

Nadal will face No. 4 Andy Murray, a 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2) winner over John Isner.

No. 1 Novak Djokovic will play No. 3 Roger Federer in the other semifinal. In the women's semifinals Saturday, top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki will face Serena Williams, and Angelique Kerber will play Sam Stosur.

In the mixed doubles final, American teenagers Jack Sock and Melanie Oudin beat Gisela Dulko and Eduardo Schwank 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-8 (tiebreak).

NEW YORK — Oakland rookie Terrelle Pryor will appeal his five-game NFL suspension, according to a person familiar with his case.Pryor was selected in the third round of the supplemental draft Aug. 22. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him, however, for the season's first five games for manipulating his eligibility for that draft.

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — A Mississippi Gulf Coast high school football player died after collapsing on the field during a game. D'Iberville High School player Latrell “Fred” Dunbar was pronounced dead at Ocean Springs Hospital, Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus told The Sun Herald.It was not immediately clear what caused his death. D'Iberville coach Buddy Singleton told The Clarion-Ledger that Dunbar collapsed while returning to the huddle.

RICHMOND, Va. — Kyle Busch raced to his eighth NASCAR Nationwide Series victory of the year and record 51st overall, holding off Carl Edwards at Richmond International Raceway.Edwards led 160 laps, Busch 74, including the last 34. The two Sprint Cup Series regulars have won 14 of the 27 races in the series this year.Earlier, David Reutimann took the pole for the Sprint Cup race Saturday night.
