The Music for Medicine concert this year features the Trinity Jazz Orchestra with vocalist Adam Brock presenting popular big band music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College. Proceeds will benefit the Community Health Clinic.

On the eve of the 10th anniversary of 9-11, the program will climax with a tribute to the men and women of the services that were first to respond to the attack: police, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians. Representatives of the services in the audience will be recognized.

Tickets are $25 in advance and are available by calling the theater box office at 724-284-8505 or by visiting the website www.bc3.edu/theater. Tickets will be $30 at the door. All seats are reserved. VIP tickets are $50 and include special seating and a reception following the concert.

The 33rd annual Butler Fall Festival, formerly known as the Butler Ethnic Festival, takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 on Main Street.Music offered from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. will include Street Level Band and the Jay T. Vonada Trio.Admission is free. Some streets will be closed.

The Butler Wing Festival is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Butler Days Inn, Route 8.The admission price of $15 in advance or $18 the day of the event will allow visitors to sample wings from a variety of establishments and beers and liquors from multiple vendors.Football games will be shown on multiple projection screens throughout Holiday Hall.The event is for all ages, although alcohol may can be consumed only by people age 21 and older.For more information, call 724-287-6761.

The male a cappella group Overboard will replace Chapter 6 as the first show in the Butler County Community College Performing Arts Series.The concert is at 8 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Succop Theater.The group's repertoire consists primarily of contemporary pop/rock songs, including covers from such artists as Rascal Flatts, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles. The group also continues to perform classic selections such as “Blue Moon,” “In The Still of the Night” and “Stand By Me.”Tickets are $18 in advance, or $22 at the door; students pay $10. PENN TWP — The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Succop Conservancy, 185 Airport Road.The event will feature a butterfly release from the Butler VNA at 1:30 p.m. Ongoing activities include tours of the historic mansion, walks on the conservancy's nature trails, and games of croquet.The event is free and refreshments will be provided.For more information, call 412-963-6100 or visit www.aswp.org.

PITTSBURGH — Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., on Saturday will open “Stars & Stripes: An American Story,” which details the stories of the people behind the more than 200 year history of our nation's most enduring symbol.To coincide with the 10th anniversary weekend of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, the history center will unfurl a 60-foot American flag on the façade of the museum, with the help of local first responders, including police, fire, and EMS professionals.The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Artists Tom Panei of Butler and Bill Secunda of Summit Township have had their work accepted in the ArtPrize competition, the art contest with a prize of $250,000.The competition will take place Sept. 21 to Oct. 9 in Grand Rapids, Mich.Second and third place awards also are substantial at $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. The fourth through 10th place prizes are $7,000 each.Secunda has been in the prize money in this contest before. In 2010, he took home seventh place and $7,000 for his “Dancing with Lions” sculpture. The year before that Secunda won fifth place and the same cash prize.This is Panei's first ArtPrize contest.

SAXONBURG — This year's Penn's Colony Festival will be Sept. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at the festival grounds at 365 Saxonburg Blvd. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.The festival features artists and musical entertainment reminiscent of the 18th century around the time of the French and Indian War.The marketplace features 150 exhibits from juried artisans.Entertainment will include the Rich Patrick Band, Brigadoon Highlanders Pipes and Drums and Celtic Eagle Pipes and Drums.Admission is $7 for those ages 16 to 59, $6 for age 60 and older, $5 for ages 8 to 15, and free for age 7 and younger. LYNDORA — A benefit dance featuring The Igniters is planned for Sept. 24 at American Legion Post 778, 150 Legion Memorial Lane.The group plays rhythm and blues from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.Doors open at 8 p.m. with the show starting at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 for a single person or $25 for a couple.Proceeds benefit the Community Health Clinic of Butler County.
