John Rock

John Rock, 90, formerly of Butler, died in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., peacefully Thursday with his family by his side.

John was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Lyndora to the late Anna and Frank Rock.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John married the love of his life, Jean L. Duffy, on July 16, 1946. They lived in Butler, where they raised their family and where he owned and operated a wholesale supply business.

After retirement, John and his wife moved to Oveido, Fla., in 1996, and later moved to New Smyrna Beach.

John has always been a hard worker, either in his own business or when helping others. In Florida he was devoted to feeding the poor and helping others in need. He gave freely of his talents and gave generously to others. His most valued talent was being a devoted husband to Jean.

He was preceded in death by his five siblings, Wallace, Andrew, Mary, Mitchell and Nicholas.

John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jean; two children, Al and his wife, Cindy Rock, of Livonia, Mich., and Paula and her husband, Mark Rusinko, of Newark, Del.; and two grandchildren, John Rock of Livonia, Mich., and Leah and her husband, John Kulikowski, of Wamego, Kan.

<B>ROCK</B> — Visitor reception for John Rock, who died Thursday, July 28, 2011, was at 9 a.m. today followed by a life celebration officiated by Phillip Adams, minister, Church of God and assisted by Deacon Alex Thompson, at 10 a.m. today at the <B>Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place</B>, 1 N.
