BC3 volleyball takes down tournament
BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College women’s volleyball team opened the season Saturday by winning its own annual kickoff tourney.
The Pioneers won three matches in straight sets, defeating Allegany College (Md.) 25-12, 25-10; knocking off Westmoreland Community College 25-12, 25-6; before again beating Allegany 25-15, 25-16.
BC3’s Samantha Sharpless, a 5-foot-10 middle hitter from Linesville, was named tournament MVP. She had 14 kills and seven aces.
Knoch grad Stephanie Eagal had 16 kills while Butler graduate Danielle Lloyd contributed 25 digs. Both made the all-tournament team.
Slippery Rock graduate Jessica Prelec, a 5-foot-6 sophomore setter, had 41 assists.
The Pioneers (3-0) will compete in the Alfred Tournament on Saturday.
