OMAHA, Neb. — The United Football League will go ahead with its third season, despite losing more than $100 million in its first two years.Commissioner Michael Huyghue wrote “we will play” in a text message to The Associated Press on Tuesday night.Huyghue said the league will announce details Wednesday.The UFL on July 19 announced it would push back the start of its training camps a month and delay the start of the season from August to September. That fueled speculation the second-tier pro league would fold.

NEW YORK — The NFL is adding game-day testing for performance-enhancing substances — but not recreational drugs — this season under the new collective bargaining agreement.The league's senior vice president of law and labor policy, Adolpho Birch, said Tuesday on a conference call with reporters that tests weren't conducted in the past on days there were games “because of logistical issues involved, much more so than any philosophical issues.”

MIAMI — Dan Uggla of the Atlanta Braves extended his hitting streak to 30 games with a single in the fifth inning against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night.Uggla’s streak ties Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the longest of the season and is the third-longest in franchise history.Facing Clay Hensley, Uggla hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield that was fielded by shortstop Emilio Bonifacio, but Uggla easily beat the throw.Uggla was batting .173 when his streak began, the lowest average for any hitter with more than 10 at-bats at the start of a 30-game streak since at least 1918, according to STATS, Inc.
