Doe license season kicks off

It is doe license season in the Butler County Treasurer’s Office.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has allocated 902,000 antlerless deer licenses for the 2011-2012 hunting season. The treasurer’s office began accepting antlerless applications via US mail on July 11 and has processed over 11,000 licenses to date.

Early archery season begins Sept. 17. Anyone planning to take to the woods and fields at thart time should mail in their applications soon.

The first round of unsold antlerless deer licenses will be accepted only by mail beginning Monday. The first round is open to all residents and non-residents of Pennsylvania and may be mailed to Butler County Treasurer’s Office, P.O. Box 1208, Butler, PA 16003-1208.

The second round of unsold antlerless deer licenses will be accepted only by mail beginning Aug. 15.

When applying for an antlerless deer license, use the official pink mailing envelope. Review the mailing check-off list found on the back of the envelope to ensure that the application is complete and the enclosed check is written for the correct amount.

Each antlerless deer license is $6.70 for residents and $26.70 for non-residents. Also, be sure to have the proper return address and postage on the return envelope.

The only Wildlife Management Unit sold out at this time is 2G. Check the PGC website for updated WMU availability before sending for your license. The website is www.pgc.state.pa.us.

Other important dates regarding antlerless license sales are as follows:

• Aug. 22 is the first date to purchase licenses over-the-counter for selected WMU’s 2B, 5C and 5D.

• Sept. 12 is when all regular and first round licenses will be mailed to successful applicants in time for opening day of early archery. The second round of licenses will be mailed Sept. 26.

• Oct. 3, if antlerless deer licenses are still available and the applicant has not exceeded his or her license limit, the Butler County Treasurer’s Office will begin accepting antlerless deer license applications over-the-counter for all available WMU’s.

Call the Butler County Treasurer’s Office with any questions. The staff is very versed on the issuance of licenses and will be happy to provide their assistance to help ensure licenses are received for the 2011-2012 hunting season.
